Your Unfair Advantage.
10 Ways to Own It.

You live next door to Africa's first LIV Golf event. While 25,000 fans battle traffic, you walk. Here's the full playbook.

01
🚶
Walk or Cycle. Use Runnymead Gate.
Walkers are NOT allowed at the main vehicle entrance -- you MUST use the Runnymead gate (confirmed by Dainfern CEO on event day). It's a 20-30 min walk from Dainfern's main gate via William Nicol and Cedar Road. Driving means gridlock everywhere. Walk and skip all of it.
Saves 60+ min
02
Time Your Exit, Not Arrival
Getting in is easy. Getting out is the problem. Concert and Fan Village now close at 17:00, triggering a mass exodus. Leave by 16:45 or wait 45+ min. As a local, walk home or head to Six33 Restaurant at Dainfern (they've confirmed all LIV attendees are welcome).
Pro Tip
03
🍖
Pre-Game at Home
No outside alcohol allowed, and drinks inside run ~R60 per beer. Have a braai and drinks at home before walking over. Pack a gallon bag of biltong, droewors, sandwiches, and halved fruit to bring through the gate. You'll save hundreds easily.
Saves R300+
04
🚨
Secure Your Traffic Permit Early
JMPD is closing the Cedar Road / Runnymead Avenue intersection completely. Only residents with valid permits pass through. Contact Dainfern estate management now. Don't discover this on event morning when you can't get out of your own neighbourhood.
Critical
05
🔍
Use Thursday as Recon Day
Thursday is cheapest (~R750), least crowded, and starts at 10:05 AM. Walk over, learn the layout, find the best food trucks, locate the Runnymead entrance logistics, and scout viewing spots. Then use that intel to optimize Fri-Sun.
Pro Tip
06
🔄
Commit to the Full Day
With concert and Fan Village now closing at 17:00, the event runs ~9AM-5PM. Pack your gallon bag of snacks, bring a folding chair, and commit. The Rubix shuttle runs return trips at 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, and 17:00 if you need to leave early.
Plan Ahead
07
🏠
Be the Base Camp
Invite friends to drive to Dainfern, park at your home (no non-resident vehicles at Clubhouse). Take the Rubix shuttle together from Dainfern Clubhouse to Gate B. After the 17:00 close, head to Six33 Restaurant or back to yours for a braai while Joburg sits in traffic.
08
Know the Road Closures
Winnie Mandela Drive will be the worst bottleneck -- JMPD is deploying point-duty officers and bus lanes. No parking on Cedar Road or Winnie Mandela. For errands during event hours, use Witkoppen Road through Lonehill or Fourways instead.
Critical
09
🚲
Use the Pedestrian Infrastructure
Once inside the Runnymead entrance, Steyn City has a ring road with dedicated walkways and cycle tracks, plus underpasses for pedestrians. Follow these routes instead of competing with vehicle traffic on internal estate roads.
Pro Tip
10
🔥
Saturday Is Your Day
Calvin Harris + 25,000 fans = maximum chaos for drivers. Biggest crowd in LIV history outside the US. But for you? A pleasant 20-minute walk each way. This is the day your proximity advantage pays off the most.
Max Advantage

Route & Traffic Intel

Walkers MUST use the Runnymead gate -- no walk-ins at the main entrance. Dainfern has its own shuttle service via Rubix Transfers to Gate B.

Walking? Use Runnymead gate ONLY. No walk-ins at the main entrance (confirmed by Dainfern CEO, 19 Mar 09:10). Exit Dainfern main gate onto William Nicol, right (north), left onto Cedar Road, left onto Runnymead Avenue. ~2-3 km, 20-30 min walk.
Source conflict note: LIV Golf official site says "All guests enter via Main Fan Entrance." Dainfern CEO (Gerri) confirmed on event day that pedestrians are NOT allowed at the main entrance and MUST use Runnymead gate. Follow the local guidance.

Southern Guards GC.
South Africa's Pride.

Formerly Stinger GC, rebranded with a rhino emblem for 2026. All four are South African. They helped bring LIV Golf to Steyn City and shaped the course setup. This is personal.

Louis Oosthuizen
Age 43 | Mossel Bay, Western Cape
2010 Open Champion
Farm boy from the Western Cape who once shot 57 at his local club. Peaked at world #4. 16 professional wins worldwide. The only Southern Guard still hunting his first LIV Golf individual victory -- all three teammates have already won one.

Team Strengths

  • 4th in scrambling across all LIV teams
  • 2nd in putting (Schwartzel: best putter in the league 2025)
  • All four grew up on Kikuyu grass -- massive home advantage
  • 3 of 4 have won LIV individual events
  • 3rd in 2025 LIV Golf Team Championship

Watch For

  • Burmester in hot 2026 form (T6 Adelaide, T7 Hong Kong)
  • Schwartzel thrives in front of home crowds
  • Oosthuizen hunting his first LIV win -- what better place?
  • Driving accuracy is their weakness (7th in league) -- Steyn City's narrow fairways could bite
  • Crowd energy will be unlike anything at any LIV event before

Fan Intel. Not Marketing.

Distilled from first-hand accounts at LIV Boston, Nashville, Singapore, UK, and Adelaide.

⚽ The Shotgun Start

  • Every hole has action from minute one -- no waiting for leaders
  • 15-20 min gap between groups at any hole -- use it to move, eat, or check the app
  • Your favourite player might finish on hole 1, not 18. Check the app for starting holes.
  • The 10-second countdown is an EVENT -- smoke machines, crowd going nuts

🎯 Two Strategies

Park: Plant at one hole (17th or 18th) and watch all 57 players come through. Bring folding chair.

Roam: Follow a group for 9-18 holes. Close-up views but 6+ hours walking.

Hybrid (best): Follow a group for 9 holes, then park at 17th for afternoon drama.

🤝 Player Access is Insane

  • "Just a few feet" from players -- closer than any other pro golf event
  • Practice range before shotgun start is your golden window
  • Autographs genuinely accessible, especially Thu/Fri when crowds are thin
  • "Little Sharks" kid autograph zones near practice areas
"I paid SGD64 and was able to be so close to the action and golf stars." -- Singapore attendee

🎵 The Vibe

  • Music plays from the moment you enter -- pool party playlist, never stops during play
  • Gender ratio close to 1:1. Skews younger than traditional golf.
  • Dress code is non-existent. Casual is normal.
  • Walk-on songs at the 17th party hole for each player
"F1 meets PGA" or "Harlem Globetrotters but with the world's best players." Every review says this.

🏌 The Course Advantage

  • Kikuyu grass is the great equalizer -- international players struggle with thick rough
  • SA team (Schwartzel, Oosthuizen, Burmester) have a huge home advantage
  • Altitude (1,350m) adds 10-15% carry distance. Expect lots of birdies.
  • 75 bunkers, the Jukskei River, and a Jack Nicklaus design
"Bryson hasn't felt the Kikuyu grass yet." -- Charl Schwartzel, with a smile

⚠ Reality Checks

  • Drinks: ~R60 per beer. Soft drinks also pricey. Bring snacks.
  • Cashless everywhere. No exceptions.
  • NO re-entry. Once you leave, you're out.
  • Steyn City is 2.5x Central Park. Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Concert now ends at 17:00. Fan Village closes 17:00. Plan your exit accordingly.
  • Merch tent sells out fast. Buy early or accept long queues.
